Western Bulldogs rising stars Isabel Huntington and Gabby Newton have been named in the 2020 AFLW 22Under22 team.

Newton and Huntington, both No.1 picks in their respective draft pools, were selected as defenders, after the initial squad of 31 was trimmed to 22.

Newton managed every game in her debut season as a Bulldog, averaging 13 disposals and seven tackles per game.

The 18-year-old was nominated for the NAB AFLW Rising Star award in Round 4 against West Coast, following a 16-disposal and 10-tackle performance.

Huntington, who has had an unlucky run with injuries since her debut in 2018, played all but one game this season.

She finished the six-round season ranked equal-first for contested marks, and second for intercept possessions across the competition.

The 21-year-old was the Round 6 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee, and was named as one of five defenders in AFL Media’s Team of the Year.

The 22Under22 is a fan-voted concept that recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season.
