Tom Campbell has certainly turned heads in the Western Bulldogs forward line in recent weeks, even if in unconventional ways.

Last fortnight it was a deft-tap to set-up Daniel Giansiracusa's goal of the year contender, this week it was his courage and focus, eyes only for the football, running back with the flight towards goal.

Colliding with the goal post, the versatile tall shrugged off the knock like it was a bump from an opponent, rising to his feet to successfully take his shot on goal from close range.

Developing his forward craft at VFL level, the past weeks in the senior side has seen the 21-year-old take steps in displaying his credentials as a dual forward / ruck option in the Bulldogs' lineup.

“I have played predominantly ruck right through my junior career and VFL career, so to be playing up forward is a different role and I am really enjoying it at the moment,” Campbell said.

Campbell has shown marked improvement in his forward craft this season, producing three goals, four goal assists and 16 hitouts in the past two games.

“[Development Coach] Ash Hansen has been working [with me] really closely with my forward craft, being able to provide a contest every time,” he said.

“With [Assistant Coach] Shannon Grant also as a forward, being able to always be a contest down the line.”

Playing in his first senior win on Saturday against Carlton, the 21-year-old said the experience will stay with him forever.

“The first win was just an unbelievable experience, it is something that probably took a little bit longer than I would have hoped,” he said.

“But to stand in the middle of the circle when the song is sung is just a great feeling and I will never forget it.”
