After promising results against Coburg and Werribee, the Seagulls suffered a tough 23-point loss away from home against the undefeated Casey Scorpions last weekend.
In very windy conditions out at Casey Fields, Williamstown weren’t able to capitalise with the wind advantage in the final term after trailing at ¾ time by 34 points.
Despite the loss, shining lights for the Seagulls included Lukas Markovic, who kept Melbourne recruit Chris Dawes to just two goals, Cameron Lockwood who was strong defensively and rebounded with poise, and Cameron Wood who performed well in the ruck with 34 hitouts and picking up 17 disposals around the ground.
Collingwood recorded a 116-point win over Bendigo Gold in their match-up last week, picking up their second win of the season.
Marley Williams and Andrew Krakouer were two of the ‘Pies best, picking up 45 disposals between them, while Lachlan Ferguson also chipped in with 22 disposals and three goals.
Young key forward Simon Deery will make his debut as the 23rd man this week, after some strong showings in the Development League this season.
The ex-Gippsland Power product has booted 16 goals in his four games so far this season and will provide an extra marking target up forward for Williamstown.
The match gets underway at 2:00pm at Burbank Oval on Sunday.
