Western Bulldogs defender Easton Wood has been named in the 24-man Australian squad that will take on Ireland in the 2011 International Rules Series beginning October 28 at Etihad Stadium.

The swift and agile 22 year-old joins a youthful green and gold line-up that will contest the two test series against the Irish. The second test of the series will be held at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on November 4.

Wood will feel at home is his preparations for his international debut, with members of the Australian team training at the Bulldogs’ Whitten Oval facilities next Tuesday (October 18) and Thursday (October 20).

The Whitten Oval will also play host to the Irish team as they prepare for the series. The international visitors will train at Whitten Oval on Monday October 24 and Wednesday October 26 in the countdown to the opening match of the series in Melbourne.

The Western Bulldogs welcomes all media to Whitten Oval for these training sessions to watch both teams go through their paces as they prepare for their two test match encounters.

Wood and this Australian teammates will be defending the Cormac McAnallen trophy when the series commences in two weeks. Australia won last year’s International Rules series 2-0 in Ireland.

Wood played 15 games for the Bulldogs in season 2011 with niggling injuries preventing the talented third-year player from more time in the senior line-up.

Selected number 43 overall in the 2007 NAB AFL National Draft, Wood recently re-signed with the Bulldogs confirming his commitment to the Club for 2012 and beyond.
