Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli hopes the group will relish their time together, as they embark on a week-long trip to Perth.

The Bulldogs flew out on Sunday evening, in order to complete the required hard quarantine as per WA border restrictions, before meeting the Eagles at Optus Stadium this weekend.

Bontempelli said the extended trip will provide a good chance for the 26-player squad to bond ahead of their Round 15 challenge.

“We’re somewhat just a bit stiff I guess with the fixturing with regards to having to travel twice to Perth in the last month, but other than that, it is what it is,” Bontempelli told westernbulldogs.com.au pre-flight.

“I think we know things are always subject to change - especially off the back of last year - so to be back here and off to Perth for a week this time just opposed to the night is a bit different, but it’s a good opportunity for us to get away and spend some time together.”

It was just a fortnight ago that the Bulldogs departed for a week in NSW, before flying to Perth the day prior to what ended up being their first win at Optus Stadium, and first win over Fremantle in their home state since 2009.

“Clearly being over in Perth this time will be a little different for us, being in the resort and confined to there other than when we’re training and obviously playing,” he said.

“Obviously we’re not taking the whole squad either, so there are some of the boys back here which probably just needed to happen with regards to the (VFL) game at the end of the week they’ll be playing.

“It would’ve been great to have everyone together, but circumstantially we just couldn’t do it. Hopefully everyone will be okay.”

In recent times, the Dogs and Eagles have played in some thrilling matches – including earlier this year in Round 2 at Marvel Stadium.

Bontempelli hopes for another spectacle.

“That has been the story for our encounters with West Coast for the last couple of years – they always seem to churn out some good quality games,” the captain said.

“For the fans’ perspective too you always want the game to be interesting and exciting, and it just seems to be the way it goes when we play West Coast.”
